Dr. Chiarina Iregui is a dental sleep medicine specialist on the team at Pittsburgh Dental Sleep Medicine. She sees patients from the practice's office locations in Wexford and McMurray, Pennsylvania.
Dr. Iregui graduated from the University of Missouri-Kansas City Dental School in 1992 and completed a one-year general dentistry residency at Denver General Hospital in Denver, Colorado. Her residency focused on oral surgery, trauma, and dental care of medically compromised patients. She was also able to provide general dental care for people who did not have access to regular health care.
After completing her residency, Dr. Iregui practiced general dentistry full-time from 1993-1998. During that time, she also joined the part-time faculty in operative dentistry at Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine.
In 1998, Dr. Iregui became the Director of the two-year Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency program at Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine while maintaining her general practice one day a week. She took the program through the accreditation process and wrote articles on restorative dentistry techniques.
In 1998, Dr. Iregui and her family relocated from St. Louis, Missouri, to Gig Harbor, Washington. Although Dr. Iregui decided to stay home with her children, she continued to attend dental education courses to maintain her dental license. It was during a day-long course on sleep apnea and oral appliance therapy that her passion for dental sleep apnea therapy was sparked.
In 2013, she opened a practice solely geared toward treating those with obstructive sleep apnea. After fulfilling her prerequisites, passing a board exam, and presenting 20 clinical cases of patients she treated using oral appliance therapy, Dr. Iregui was granted the status of Diplomate of the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine in 2017.
Dr. Iregui grew her private practice in Gig Harbor until she sold it in early 2021 to relocate to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Her parents are from Youngstown, Ohio, and she has a large extended family who still resides in this area. It was the Covid pandemic that made her realize she longed to be closer to relatives she grew up with. Dr. Iregui feels very fortunate to have the opportunity to join Dr. Rogers and Pittsburgh Dental Sleep Medicine while being close to family.
Dr. Iregui is a member of the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine, the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, and the American Dental Association, the Pennsylvania Dental Association, and the Dental Society of Western Pennsylvania. She is also a member of the Spencer Study Club, which focuses on the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea and temporomandibular joint disorders. She participates in the Spencer Study Club Business Elite group as well. This is a group of 22 dentists from around the country who are hand chosen to be a part of a mastermind group focused on the expanding awareness, diagnosis, and treatment of obstructive sleep apnea.
In her spare time, Dr. Iregui enjoys spending time with her husband and three children, skiing, swimming, and being active.
